Mongolia to China!!
Well this is it am in Beijing. The funny thing is is that this is the bit I was the least bothered about but is blowing me away. My gosh, China is awesome.
More on that in a mo.
erm cant remember when last blog was...oh yes, UB, I LOVE Mongolia!! Wish it was easier to get to as these border crossings are hell.
Had a Mongoian Barbeque which is pretty much as it sounds then we went clubbing. On a weds night in Mongolia, it was hilarious. Music was ok, sorta dance music, bit slow for me! Vodka, tiger beer, we kinda took over the place. What a bizarre trip he he it doesnt fail to surprise me this one.
So after about 2 hrs sleep we got on the final train to Beijing. Hellish. Was horrible leaving so early in the morn. Some of the guys were on the beers straight away! Hellish! :)
The border crossing the mongolian side was quite quick, about an hour and a half, then again the chinese side. however we had the bogie change too, that is awesome, they lift the train up (with you in it) and change the bogie thingys! It took about 6 hrs i think. boiling hot, toilets locked, what a palava. russia-mongolai was 9 hours! horribel as hot but cant drink.
it certainly is an experience.
after we crossed into china there was mass rehydrating and a long queue for the toilets he he. was in a cabin with the aussie nutcases Dallas and Lucy and a Brit (not on our trip) called Gordon and he got so hammered and all his stuff was everywhere but he was cool-he went to Exeter Uni (although he has never heard of the Nobody Inn shock horror)!!
So awoke to find meself in China, this place HUGE and busy and very friednly, I feel safe for my afternoon jaunt to Tianeman Square and the Forbidden City. Ansum :) Am really excited!!!
So........omg, yesterday, I climed the great wall, it was SO great, a real amazing piece to see and my brain still cant take it in, i have some awesome pics!!
Cos it was the last night of the tour last night (I have an extra night) we all had dinner together and had some amazing food and lotsa beers for 3 squids!! How cheap??? We then went drinking and had a dance etc, was emotional. I had organised a collection for Heika our guide as she was just great. am hoping to meet some of the others for dinner tonight when they get back from the great wall later (I did it yeaterday so had today to chill round the city with tianemen etc).
thanks to mandy, sailor and bro for msgs, ansum.
rightio, me offski, may get online later to tell all about the fobidden city etc, if not early flight tomorrow.
How the hell do I go back to normal life after this???
LOL H xx

ulan ude to ulan baatar
hellish oh my god as so pissed off that only have 4 more nights left then home :(
where to start....think last update was in irkutsk???
left irkutsk and got to ulan ude in the morn (afetr the attendant burst in an hour before our stop and shouted "get up" was hilarious, but scary) stayed at a homestay, oh my god the shiower was in the corrider and it was so god damn cold :( got in the shower after we locked the boys in their room he he then the guys son walked in...argh!! the shiower was on stilts. i say shower, the boys used up the hot water so had a shower with a bucket of hot water from the banya and heikas tea mug, umm interesting. i have SO lowered my standards omg!! so ulan ude was cool, walked down to main square and saw the lenin heda which is MASSIVE!! hellish! it was international childrens day so lotsa kids around and balloons n stuff, also there was some awesome techno playing, hellish the russinas love their techno. oops typos, apologies.
we then had lunch and strolled around, chilled, got attacked by dogs etc then had lovely evening meal together. got up really early the next day to get the train, i am living on hardly any food, hardly any sleep but thankfully not too much voddie he he ;)
so we had to cross the border from russia to mongolia, hellish, 9 hours argh...toliets locked and boiling hot so coulnt drink as couldnt pee. ggggrrr was tough but a laugh. omg horrendous comedy scetch.....jumpedoff train for a smoke and brad and dallas were off aswell and the train started moving (turned out was only moving tracks to get the other engine) and we couldnt get back on our carriage so had to run and jump on a moving train and get on the other carriage. we then couldnt get back on to ours as the dividing doors were shut, hellish omg the panic. also, there was the thought that what if that carriage then disconnected. am getting all nervous jus thinking about it omg! anyway, was all okay.
when we FINALLY got into mongolia we all cheered and have marked the time and date in my journal when we got in finally. was awesome. we then had some voddie and all squeezed in one cabin and i have a wicked photo of us all and some video footgae, was well cool. we were all well happy. then it got messy and dint get much sleep and got off train at 6am is. got to hotel (yes, a hotel, at last) and had shower then one n half hour minibus (sctechy) journey to ger camp. omg, i love mongolia, it is awesome and great and i wanna come back-who is coming with me? i also wanna do the end of the trans siberian to vladivostock...any takers???
so the ger camp, slept in an actual ger and it was so toasty until the morn, hellish. we had some great food and i did some poi listening to mp3-sigur ros. now if you know how much i love my poi and sigur ros, combine the 2, along with being in the middle of nowhere in mongolia i was one happy H. I screamed a big "woohoo" was great.
oh my god, this trip is amazing but so hard going, christ i am knackered but so happy and i still have china left. it really is something else, a real once in a lifetime trip and the guys are great, we are the most hectic group that our guide has ever had! he he oh dear...is that a good thing??
anyone seen the new satc movie? argh bloody americans, film, not movie! he he last night at dinner we organised a satc movie, argh done it again, FILM night on sat night as its my last night, we are gonna have cosmopolitans too. i feel special that we are doing it cos its my last night. awwww
lots of peeps are gonna do the great wall with me on sat in the day, cool-o-rama.
have tried to send some texts but they not goimg through so i suspect that i will have the same problem in china just so that you know.
so ulaan bataar is cool, can see the WW2 memorial thingy outside the city but havent got time to get out there. gonna check out the museum.
just been for lunch and met up with some other travellers so invited them to our meal tonight, there is talk of clubbing, breakfast at 6.30 oh dear!! so final furlong approaches, train tomorrow til fri afternoon, along with a nice border crossing again for about 6 hours to get into china. this is mad!! he he
i keep getting moments when am thinking about pals and family back home and listening to p3 and i am just like "how the hell i\am i gonna spit all this out when I get back??" also "how am i gonna go back to work and live my life again after this?" it really is something else.

lake baikal
ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh mmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeee ggggggggggggoooooooooooooooooooooddddddddddddddd hellish i am enjoying myself so much so so much
lake baikal is descibed as "achingly beautiful" and they are not wrong. wow, cant comprehend that it is an island. it is stunning, amazing, perfect etc etc.
vodka is so cheap and now i think am addicted to the stuff, hellish!!!
was so funnt as the first afternoon we went for a walk and these guys pulled up in a lada and they fell out the car with some voddie (vodka) and were like "u drink" they had a kid in the car with a flick knife and also were watching porn. on eof my group, Dallas went for a spin in the car, was blinking hilarious he he
dip your feet-5 years, hands 1 year and whole body 25 years so i went for it, umm nice pics for y'all to see in me swimwear..hellish.....was so god damn cold, about 2 degrees. i was like "25 years for the smoker" he he only myself, heika, brad and steve went in. then we had a banya which is a russian bath thing. oh my god, was sooo hot!! had the BEST day yesterday, was so great!!! we split into 2 groups so there was 7 of us in one house and the food was great. oh my god, drop toilets that are like something out of texas chain saw massacre in the dark.
took some awesome pics, again cant upload. am back in irkutsk for a few hours then overnight train to ulan ude to see giant lenin head.
en route to lake baikal we split into a car and a minibus thing. i was in front seat of this car and shoved on some of the drivers techno, was hilarious, they love techno out here. we stopped for a smoke and the drivers benny benassi was pumping out, was like phase 2 in the middle of the siberian forest he he :)
feel so lucky to have walked up a hill on lake baikal and swam in it. it really is something else.
